The 1998-99 NBA season was the Hawks' 50th season in the NBA and 31st season in Atlanta.〔(1998-99 Atlanta Hawks )〕 During a season cut to 50 games by a four month lockout, the Hawks continued to split their games between the intimate Alexander Memorial Coliseum (known as McDonald's Center at the time), and the cavernous Georgia Dome. They finished second in the Central Division with a 31-19 record.〔http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/atlanta/atlhawks.html〕 In the first round of the playoffs, they defeated Detroit Pistons in a hard fought five game series. However, they were stunned by the #8 seed New York Knicks who swept them in the semifinals. This season would also be the last time the Hawks appear in the playoffs until 2008. ==Offseason==
